Painting ceiling same color as walls is one of many design ideas for low ceiling. I love ranch style house because it has no stairs and it is perfect for a family with little kids. Don’t have to worry about the kids falling from the stairs, one less thing to worry about. The problem is that most of the ranch style house are old houses with low ceilings. Well, it can be opened up and make it a vaulted ceiling or ceiling with open and exposed beams. But if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, don’t want to be hassled with too much renovation, and don’t want to think about how to change the light bulbs when the ceiling is so high, then the easy options are to do eye tricks:
1. Paint the ceiling in light high gloss color.
High gloss paint will reflect light and the glossy color will give you depth and appear like non-static, almost like reflective mirror.
2. Paint your wall color the same as ceiling to make the ceiling “disappear”.
If you think that’s boring, paint your wall over to the ceiling about 2-4 inches around the edge. It gives the appearance of elongated wall.
3. Floor to ceiling drapes. Hang the drapes as close as possible to the ceiling. Here is the comparison.
4. Low profile furniture.
Pick low furniture to create the height between the top of your furniture with the ceiling (also notice the high gloss ceiling on this picture).
5. The last but not least, just like in fashion, vertical stripes will make you appear taller and leaner. On your wall, vertical stripes will elongate the wall and make the ceilings appear higher. But keep the stripes thin and narrow, not too wide.
